MoneyVidya Blogger Network – My Benefits

In yesterday’s post, I discussed how I am using MoneyVidya site to experiment and rate my investment decisions. I discussed one of my objectives of comparing long term investing with short term stock picking. I am attempting to push myself and show my readers that I am not running away from responsibility. I expect to continue on as long as the site has ability to meet my long term investing philosophy. As of today, it meets my objectives.

I joined MoneyVidya Blog Network and agreed to publish guest post or re-post some of my articles on their Blog Site. I wanted to collect some data to understand whether it has any benefits to me. I believe that an independent data set should speak (rather than me proclaiming hypothetical scenarios). I now have something to discuss with my readers.

Initially, I was very skeptical of this approach. I was under the impression, why should I share my articles on their network. Why should I let them take credit for my articles? So I said I will join as an experiment and see what happens.

In real sense, my blog is only three months old. I started posting my articles on MoneyVidya Blog Network from last week of March 2009. I have attached Google analytical data.

  • Image 1 shows my blog had 2361 visitors and 8553 page views from April 1 to May 31, 2009. Not a whole lot, but a good start for three month old blog that does not give daily stock tips
  • Image 2 shows monthly visitor break up. April (926 visitors) and May (1435 visitor). An increase of 54%.
  • Image 2 also shows monthly page view break up. April (2744) and May (5809). An increase of 111%.
  • Image 3 shows traffic coming from MoneyVidya Site. April (6.7%) and May (9.0%). As of today close of 10% of my traffic comes from MoneyVidya Site.

This data shows my initial impression was wrong. My initial thought process was wrong. My personal blog is growing and I am getting quite a bit of traffic from MoneyVidya.

Some folks may argue that re-posting same articles will get penalized on Google search. Well, I am no expert in SEO or Google ranking methodology. Honestly, I am dumb in that domain. Therefore, I would like to go by data-driven analysis.

  • My Google PR increased from PR1 to PR2 (in only three months, with less than 45 posts)
  • Image 3 shows my Google organic traffic has slowly increased (from 12% to 14.6%).

So if I am suppose to get penalized, why it has not happened yet? I am not saying it will never happen. All I am saying it has not happened yet!

MoneyVidya Blog Network has given me a platform where I can demonstrate my articles. It is a very high traffic website. If I am allowed to post my articles on their network, I get an exposure to thousands of users. I also get to make lot of good friends on the network. I get to know lot of my readers, who have now become loyal readers of my personal blog. It really shows the power of networking.

In all of the above, there is no monetary benefit involved. MoneyVidya and I do not have any financial transaction. I do not know what MoneyVidya is getting from my articles. But for my new blog, MoneyVidya Blog Network is a platform to show case my own articles, show case for my own long term investing philosophy, and show case my own blog. All the data so far suggest I am getting my benefits.

I may not agree with all of features or ranking methodologies on MoneyVidya site. However, I sincerely express my thanks to MoneyVidya Management for allowing me to use their user base to showcase my articles.

I am surprised to by the your results. I would have not believe it, at first place, I like your approach on not making false claims and showing google analytics data. it solidifies your conclusion. did you ever check with moneyvidya what they get in return.

that is an interesting piece of information and data. there is a general perception among indian bloggers that why should one publish on other sites. what i find here is moneyvidya is publishes full article instead of small summary. i think that is very good.

it also shows the impressive power of network. indian bloggers do not nkow the meaning of networking. we have been taught to “not trust anybody”.

overall a great example, ably supported by data.

      Money Penny,
I agree with comment. Power of networking is amazing and it works much much better than one anticipates.

I think blogging scene India is still in its infancy. As it grows, bloggers will learn and understand more. OR may be it will evolve it a different way (when compared to US). Only time will tell.

      Best Wishes,

  4. Hei TIP guy, Great going with the blog. And quite an honest attempt with your stats. I have 2 questions.
    1. What is your other blog?
    2. How do I get the image expanded in the same screen like it does here? Is there a plugin?

    • TIP Guy says:

      Sriram,

Image expansion: Yes, it is WP plugin called “thumbnail viewer”. You can get it easily from plugin search inside WP.

Well, posting duplicate articles isn’t penalized by Google, it’s just that the re-post (one with a later date of publishing and indexing) generally doesn’t get a higher rank in the search…so, if you post your articles after a few days on their blog, it shouldn’t be a problem…

if duplicate content is to be penalized, all the sites that publish a press release will get banned…and one press release gets published on 100′s of sites… :)

    • TIP Guy says:

      Hello Sumedh,

It is good to know there is at least one more blogger, who has similar observation on the topic. In addition to press releases, how about seekingalpha, istockanlayst, and various article directories, they have high PR with all duplicate content. Thanks for the comment.

      Best Wishes,
